The Darkest of Summers is a collection of songs that were written periodically over the course of the last 8 years. Songs that were inspired by not only the untimely deaths of people close to me, but me beginning to take a deeper look at my own mortality and just what the heck I was put on this earth to do...and what I'd leave behind. It’s been quite a challenge getting back into the mindset of where I was when I wrote them and to recollect what I was going through at the time.... What I do remember was when I got my first iPhone in 2010 I began using it to record and document new music ideas. It was always on me and ready to record when inspiration struck. I’d periodically email batches of tunes to myself and throw ‘em on my hard drive for safe keeping: rinse and repeat. Fast forward, to August of 2013, I opened up the folder of where I saved said files and found there were close to 300 song ideas, riffs, melodies etc etc. I then began to organize these ideas down to 4 albums worth of material each highlighting 4 different styles of music and moods. I then dropped the ideas back onto my phone and would sit and write the lyrics during my daily long commutes to and from Long Island and Manhattan. Surprisingly, all of the lyrics for these“albums” were written in about a months time. I guess I had a lot to get off of my chest. So “The Darkest Of Summers” is the first of four albums I’ll be releasing over the next year or two or three...I don't know yet. TDOS, being the first, is dark/depressing with sprinkles of electronica, synthwave and soundscapey stuff...the follow up will be the polar opposite...a heavy metal/punk album. Pre-order / pre-save 'THE DARKEST OF SUMMERS' and get the latest single "Sidewalk" 👉 https://linktr.ee/geoffbarone G E O F F B A R O N E FUN FACT: 2 songs from Acquiescence (Swimming Through Sand & Headhunter) were written in this same time span. The latter was to be included on TDOS, but ended up making it's appearance on Acquiescence.
