Hi folks, Geoff Barone here.
It's been awhile. It's February now so you may have asked yourself "Geoff, what's up with your album? Are You Done Yet?" ...almost... As you may recall, I announced the release of Acquiescence was going to happen way back in August 2017...well obviously that wasn't the case. See, I got to a point in October that I just didn't wanna look at the sessions anymore...I just couldn't. I was burned out. It was a mixture of burnout and fear…. ![]()
Fear that the album wouldn't be heard, appreciated or forgotten about. In this current state, we're all bombarded by distractions. Be it phones, Facebook, work, life, Netflix and chill… etc etc...it seems like there's always something else better going on and my hard work would be lost in the cybervoid.
Also, the fear that the stuff I am gonna release just wasn't any good. Although there seems to be some liberation in putting myself out there and giving into the fear and vulnerability. At the end of the day, this album is "me", my crap, and as much as I try to compare myself to other folks' music - it's never going to sound that way, or sound better than it does at this point. So just give in and release it..."your next album will be better".
Either way - the holidays were approaching and it seemed it was time for a break anyway.
Fast forward to January 2018, I opened the sessions again and started slowly tweaking the music side of things. Mixing and engineering the music, so when I dropped the vocals in, it was all sound nice together (well, hopefully).
I was able to restart creative engine and get back to work. Unfortunately, I had already commited to the fact that Acquiescence was going to be a 16 song album. (Oops, my bad!) So, that’s twice the amount of work as a normal album…I always have to over complicate things…but there were a lot of things I needed to get off my chest that I simply couldn’t do within the “normal” constraints of a 10-12 song album. Regardless, I kept at it. A couple hours here, a couple hours there, in the wee hours of the morning or after the kids go to bed at night- the songs started to take shape again and my inspiration was reinvigorated. In the interim, I did manage to get some folks in to help with the album. My Dad, Dave Barone, Mathew Pike and Matt, Stacey and Ryan from Rumourz – The Fleetwood Mac Experience came in to lend a hand (or a voice) with backing vocals…I might mention, added to the re-inspiration of the process.
In final, I guess this is all part of the process of creativity? Following something through to completion is something I am getting better at. Writing these blogs is also therapeutic. It helps me distance myself from the issues at hand however I could be spending that time fixing the issues rather writing about ‘em, but whatever.
SO…I can’t tell you exactly when this album is coming out – but hear this – it will be soon. The wheels are in motion, dates are set, so just stay tuned. If you’re on my mailing list, then you’ll be sure to hear about it and get an exclusive look & listen into the album, before anyone else...I'll even send you some free music while we're at it. ![]()
