Five years ago today, I released my concept album: Conversation Pieces.
It was a success on a few levels. First, it garnered some really great reviews from such publications as PROG & Progression magazines. It was featured on both 8BitX and Progtopia Podcasts and sold out of all the limited number of physical CD’s I got pressed (well a ¼ of those I just gave away)
On even another level, I got a chance to get some really great singers and musicians playing on the concept album, which I plan on replicating with a future project in the works.
As you will learn in this video, the album recording began back in late 2003, and wasn’t finished until fall of 2012. Geoff, what is wrong with you? Why did it take so long?? Keep reading and watch the video below...
You’ll see that after I finished Conversation Pieces, I was endowed with a new sense of work ethic and a sobering awareness. The awareness that for years, I’d always create projects and such, but never follow through and finish them. Is this attention deficit disorder? Chasing butterflies? Conversation Pieces was a testament to learning the ability to start from point A and finish to point B. I realized that I had still had a ton of unfinished albums, projects, ideas, albums, musicals. Being prolific has it’s cons, but I organized and collated all I had created over the last 10 years…so at this point, I could release an album a year for the next 15 years – not saying they would be any good…but the material is there.
I don’t know if this is typical for most musicians or artistic types – but it’s something that I discovered was lacking in my creative process. Perhaps it was all not for naught tho. I’m constantly writing and creating – so all this work is merely mining for gold. Chipping away at the bullshit material to find gold at the end of the dig.
I'm excited to share lots of big news and projects with you soon, but for now, I wish you all a healing and reflective end to this frightening year. I really do believe that music is a powerful part of the path forward out of this darkness, and look forward to bringing you more of it in 2018.
In the meantime, enjoy this 30 minute documentary about my 2012 release, Conversation Pieces. It's amazing that 5 years has gone by in a flash, but I'm happy to be celebrating this anniversary, this milestone to an album I'm still proud of.
If you enjoy this documentary, I'm actually giving away a free music sampler that includes a few songs from Conversation Piece.
